for a semester-long study abroad i co-taught, organized, planned, problem solved, receipt wrangled, built the schedule, wrote assignments, graded, got 15-21 university students per year on trains, coordinated museum visits, led pre-departure meetings, the list goes on

roman imperial monuments

this course is held in rome and uses the city as a topographical experience of imperial power in ancient rome. our students write and present on these monuments, becomming the experts on their specific sites, and are encouraged to work together within their dynasties and reigns. all the while taking in the city's local culture, galleries, museums, and archaeological zones





after this intense portion, we will take a cultural break in florence and visit the uffizi and l'accademia; and venice and visit the peggy guggenheim and the fortuny

greek, roman, etruscan

this course travels to naples and pompeii, using m.a.n.n. and the pompeii scavi as the research tools. while the roman course follows the upper crust, the focus here is on the everyday, urban environment of the bay of naples. pompeii is also used as a topographical experience, but this time as a place of commerce, decoration, and livlihood by studying frescoes and mosaics





after this couse, we get the students to siracusa, sicily, to create art with two msu studio professors at the m.a.d.e. academy after conducting an orientation
