arth 501 : pedagogy and professionalism
along with my colleague jade lowder, i taught the incoming masters students in both studio arts and art history the fundamentals of teaching and professional practice
for pedagogy, we go beyond how to grade, how to write a syllabus, or the time economy of a classroom. we cover interpersonal skills, what our university provides students academically and economically, and how to keep them safe
for professionalism portion, we prepare the grad students for their academic career at our university, but also beyond once they graduate. we help them build a cv or resume as needed, build art portfolios, and begin their advanced critical reading and writing skills with weekly write-ups
teaching this course to the incoming grads is not just fun, but also a great way to know their personalities, their teaching styles, and connects our two graduate programs at the school of art together
